The Greek Film Festival returns to Palace Cinemas in October to showcase contemporary Greek Cinema with a 10-day program of features, documentaries and shorts. An event of The Greek Community of Melbourne, the Greek Film Festival celebrates 24 years of bringing Greek Cinema to Australian audiences in 2017.
The Greek film industry continues to thrive despite funding pressures, with filmmakers seeking alternative means to produce films, as well as seizing creative control of their work. Many European co-productions are also beginning to emerge as a result of the funding issues faced by filmmakers, which has seen the appearance of new, cross-cultural stories. Greek films also continue to be showcased and awarded at film festivals around the world where they are revered for their originality, dry wit and emotional impact.
