MESSAGE FROM THE LORD MAYOR OF MELBOURNE

Happy 30th birthday to the Lonsdale Street Greek Festival: the largest celebration of Greek culture outside Greece.

The City of Melbourne is proud to support this iconic event in the Lonsdale Street precinct: a hub of Greek activity since the 1950s, when large numbers of Greek migrants arrived in Melbourne.

Over two days 50,000 Melburnians and visitors will celebrate the great contribution of the Greek community to our culture.

The festival will provide hours of family fun, rides and activities and of course traditional Greek food including delicious baklava, loukoumades and lip-smacking fried halloumi chips.

Internationally renowned singer Glykeria will make her third crowd-pleasing appearance at the festival, while performances from Crete’s favourite sons the Stratakis Brothers will transport you to the Mediterranean.

Festival goers have their chance to shine with the ever-popular Zorba dance off and Greek singing contest.

Please enjoy the sights, sounds and flavours of Greece at this year’s festival.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle
